I had the honor of photographing the insanely talented Ashley of A Family Affair Photography and her new family of 6! I don’t even know where to begin to explain what a honor this was for me. You see about 3.5 years ago, I had NO idea what I was doing with my camera and honestly had little interest in photography. I vividly remember scrolling through Facebook one night and stumbling across a family session Ashley had shot. I honestly had never seen anything like it before! The light, the emotion, everything about the images caught my attention. I instantly starting following Ashley’s work and knew I had to schedule a family session with her. Shortly after that, Ashley was hosting a mommies learning manual class and I decided to sign up. At this point I had a vague idea of how to shoot in manual but felt sooo clueless. I left her class feeling very inspired to learn how to use my camera in an interesting way! It was a jumping off point for me to really dive into photography. Ashley has shot my family numerous times and I am grateful for all of those images. She has even taught my son to associate the camera with shouting “poop nugget”, which makes him smile everytime.
About a year ago, I decided to start my own photography business. I honestly had no idea how other photographers, especially ones I knew, would treat me. Of course, Ashely totally displayed community over competition, which is not always the case between photographers shooting in the same area. She has always been SO helpful and encouraging in my journey and I will always be grateful to her for that. When Ashley asked me to shoot her Fresh 48, honestly I was extremely terrified and completely humbled. I have always said, shooting another photographer is the biggest honor in my book. They usually like your style and trust your judgment, plus they know how to smile through the chaos! To have that from someone who had helped me along on my journey was huge! It felt like a such a full circle moment in my photography journey to shoot this session.
I thoroughly enjoyed shooting The Behrle clan as they welcomed sweet Oliver into their family. Of course things were a bit chaotic at times, but only because the kids were fighting over who got to hold Oliver!!!! It was SO sweet. They were all so in love with this little guy. Thanks again to Ashley and her family for allowing me to capture these moments.
