Over the past year, I have really struggled with the best way to share my voice during the current climate. As a family photographer, I want all families to feel welcomed and to feel seen. I can’t begin to know what it feels like to go to a website or on social media and see no representation of your family. Yet, time and time again, I have heard from families that they do not see themselves represented when looking for a photographer.
We are all flooded daily on our social media feeds of what the perfect family should look or be like. This usually means white, married, neurotypical, able-bodied, cis-gendered, heteronormative families, with 2 kids. I could not disagree more with this! After being inspired by a talented photographer friend, Lyndsay Hannah Photography in Boston, I looked into doing a personal project. I have decided to join a group of photographers on a nationwide project. The Every Family is Beautiful project is a project that aims to change the visual narrative of what a family looks like.
In 2021, I will be offering a set number of free sessions. These sessions will take place in St. Louis at sunset or sunrise for that beautiful light. My hope with this project is to capture each family’s unique story and beauty. I already have a few families signed up that I can’t wait to share with all of you!
If this project resonates with you and your family, please apply below. Also, please feel free to share this post with any family who would be interested in this project.
