Family photographers all have a different way of approaching a family session. Finding the one that suits your family is the most important. Study their portfolio and talk with them about their shooting style. I am not the photographer for every family and I am totally ok with that! There are all kinds of family photographers out there that range from traditional to documentary , with everything in between. I find myself somewhere in the middle, with a lean towards documentary vs. traditional. Families that are drawn to my style want the little moments or what I always call, the in-between moments. Those are the images that make them swoon the moment you see them. The images of your kiddos are laughing so hard you can feel it or an image of holding your baby for the first where you instantly remember they way they smelled. These images capturing your family as you love to see them. This is not to say that my sessions are always easy and peaceful. Far from it! They truly can be super chaotic. Kids will be kids BUT when my clients lean into what to say and trust me, we create magic! No yelling, no threats, just letting the kids lead the way and be themselves. If they want to play, we play. If they want to dance, well we dance! Most of the families that work with me are usually shocked by what I deliver to them in even the most chaotic situations and most even leave saying they had fun. Family photos don’t have to be painful for everyone involved, I promise! Finding that person who captures family the way you want to remember your family. If you want those in-between moments and everything that comes with it, then I would love the opportunity to capture your family.
