If you are a parent in the St. Louis area or are traveling to the area with your family, finding a family-friendly restaurant in the St. Louis area can feel challenging. Trust me; it doesn’t have to be! I reached out to my amazing community of families I capture yearly, a family photographer for their favorite places to take their kids out on the town. The response blew me away! Who knew there were SO many local places that families could enjoy together? Trust me; you’ll bookmark this one and want to try out every space suggested.
So here they are in no particular order…..
I must admit that I haven’t made it to the armory with my family yet…but it’s first on my list. It looks AMAZING!!! Kids are welcome before 6 pm on the weekend. The website boasts 6 acres of flexible indoor space to gather, play, eat, drink, and discover live entertainment, a two-story slide, Massive TV screens, and 40+ interactive games. What is not to love about this place, right? Plus, from the photos online, it looks like a cool spot for a family session with ME!
Rockwell Beer Garden at Francis Park
Are you looking for a low-key place to grab a beer or coffee AND let your kiddos play nearby? This is the perfect spot! Grab a pizza or some pastries to wrap up an ideal laid-back, kid-friendly place in the STL.
This is a family favorite for us! We love meeting friends, grabbing drinks, our favorite food truck treats, and enjoying the sunshine. The kids love that they can run around, play games, watch cardinals, or listen to a local band. We will be spending a lot of our summer nights here. I highly recommend bringing your favorite chairs, some blankets, and a group of friends to enjoy the experience.
A forest park staple, the Boathouse has to be on the list of top family-friendly restaurants in St. Louis. Located in a stunning Forest park, The Boathouse has ample food and drink menu to cover most appetites. We love grabbing a table near the lake. My husband and I can enjoy beverages and the sunshine while my kiddos love feeding the numerous large fish, turtles, and ducks found in the lake. Are you sensing a theme in the list….sunshine and activities are a must for me! Afterward, burn some of those calories on a paddleboat around the lake. The Boathouse can be very busy during the warmer, sunny months, so plan accordingly.
Mellow Mushroom in Sunset Hills
What would a top family-friendly list be without a pizza place listed right? Mellow Mushroom has a large open-air patio that my family loves. The deck has games and room to explore for the kiddos while we wait for our pizza to arrive. Gluten Sensitivites in your family? Mellow Mushroom has a great gluten-free pizza that I love!
This is one of my favorite pizza places in the STL. Their gluten-free is the BEST!!! SOOO good. I also love their house salad with goat cheese and balsamic dressing…I will crave Dewy’s Pizza for this salad alone. My kids love Dewy’s for the BIG kitchen window allowing the kiddos to watch the pizza being made. Always so much fun and makes waiting for a pizza pass by much quicker.
Urban Chestnut and Four Hand Brewery
Who knew a local brewery would be an excellent option for families? But they are! Both breweries offer fantastic food, local brews, and games to keep kids and families busy. My family loves a restaurant that is great for meeting other families and has something for the littles to do while they wait for food.
A local brew the kids can enjoy; yes, please! Fitz rootbeer is a local favorite, and their two locations are kid-friendly. Kids can see the root beer being made, enjoy lunch or dinner, and order the BIGGEST rootbeer float I have ever seen. My kids thought it was so much fun and yummy.
If you haven’t taken your kids to the Mission Taco locations in Kirkwood, you are missing out! It is one of my family’s favorites. Margaritas, chips and salsa, AH-MAZING tacos, and an arcade. Yes, a real old-school arcade, and I am talking skee ball and pac man. We have a blast every time we go there.
One of my favorite restaurants is Katie’s Pizza and Pasta. The list of things I love on their menu is LONG! Ha! They have excellent gluten-free options for families dealing with allergies or sensitivities. My kids love that they bring the dough to play with while waiting for their food. Our favorite is the rock hill location for its gorgeous patio.
I haven’t been to Blueberry Hill in YEARS and forgot about this as a great option for kids. With a great menu, games, and fantastic decor to look at, everyone in your family will like taking a trip down memory lane at this location.
This is our go-to breakfast or brunch spot. Be warned; it gets hectic on the weekends. My kids LOVE breakfast food, so this spot is always a win. They offer a large variety on their menus and a huge gluten-free menu too. Kids can draw on the walls and get a crown to wear during their visit.
These are just a handful of restaurants we love. What are some of your favorite spots to take your family? I love trying new places, so please share!
