Recently I spent a morning with one of the CUTEST 1 year olds around. We had a laid back in-home family session to celebrate Rush turning 1! It was the perfect way to capture what this sweet family enjoys doing together and to capture how much Rush has grown. In-home lifestyle family sessions are not only for newborns, like a lot of people believe.

The best thing about lifestyle newborn sessions is you have more flexibility with the timing of your session. This baby boy was 7 weeks old for his newborn session. My main goal when shooting these sessions, is to capture your family as they are. That may mean a sleeping baby, an awake baby, or even both! We don’t spend hours trying to get your baby sleep.

I spent a lovely morning with one of my favorite families, who happens to also be my neighbors. Elizabeth wanted a different setting for her family session vs. the typical tall grass or field, I was thrilled! I suggested doing something their family loves to do the weekend.

I am SUPER excited to share this in-home newborn  session. This session is a bit different from a lot of the newborn sessions I have shot but it is a direction I would love to start moving more into with my work. This session was approached with more of a documentary style and I couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out. 

Celebrating the first year of life is always one of my favorite sessions, especially when I have been able to capture the family throughout the first year. I first shot sweet Brooks last fall for our first session together. He was so happy, plus Maura and Cameron were a dream to work with. It was cloudy, windy, and cold that day but they pushed through with smiles on their faces! 

There are some sessions that just make your heart happy as an artist, this session is that one for me. If you have been following me for any amount of time, then you know I love moments and emotion over perfection. I want my images to make you feel something! 

It has been a month or so since I have shot an in-home lifestyle newborn session.  I forgot how much I missed them! This all boy session was a great way to get back into my newborn groove. 

I had the honor of photographing the insanely talented Ashley of A Family Affair Photography and her new family of 6! I don’t even know where to begin to explain what a honor this was for me. You see about 3.5 years ago, I had NO idea what I was doing with my camera and honestly had little interest in photography

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was to be able to shoot this family again. Last fall, we shot Otto’s newborn session and it is still one of my favorite sessions.  Nicole is so stylish, uber talented (check out my amazing logo from her), and one of the SWEETEST people you will ever meet. Her family is the exact same way and they all have such love for the baby of the family. 

I think by now everyone knows my passion for shooting fresh 48s. They are hands down my favorite sessions. There is something about those first few days that you just can’t capture during an in-home newborn session. I also think those are the moments and feelings that are hard to remember as a parent, especially a first time parent. It is such a whirlwind of emotion squeezed into a short period of time that you feel sort of high yet so exhausted at the same time. I personally have never had a fresh 48 for any of my own babies and now that I shoot them, I deeply regret it.
