I failed my 365 project. I’ll admit it…I failed my 365 photography project for 2020. I could sit here and list all the reasons why I failed or how I tried to make it work. The truth is after 7 months or so I just got tired and uninspired so I quit….Well actually I quit […]

The one thing you may not think to ask your newborn photographer| St. Louis Baby Photographer

One of the perks of being a family and newborn photographer is that I get to watch my families grow! Typically, most of my in-home newborn families,. return at 6-9 months for a milestone session and then for a 1 year family session. I can’t really explain how much I enjoy watching these babies grow. I often recommend your home for milestone and 1 year sessions. I truly believe there is something so timeless and emotional about photographing your baby throughout the year in the place that means the most to you and to them. Kids, especially babies, are SO much more comfortable in their own home.

In-home session is the best way to capture the first year | St. Louis In-Home Family Photographer

Once a client books a lifestyle newborn session with me, one of the first question I often get asked is “When is the best time or age for our session?”. When you are choosing lifestyle newborn, you are getting the flexibility of timing. This means you are not stuck squeezing in your session during the first week or so of life, like in posed newborn sessions.

St. Louis Lifestyle Newborn Photographer | The Perfect Age for A Lifestyle Newborn Session

As a lifestyle newborn photographer, one of the number one questions I get is “What if my newborn won’t go to sleep during our session?. My answer is usually something along the lines of “don’t worry, we let the baby lead the session”. When I started out as a newborn photographer, I spent so much time trying to get babies to sleep soundly or lay exactly where and how I wanted them. This process only lead to stress from the baby, me, and the parents. It felt SO unnatural to me as mother and photographer.

St. Louis Newborn Photography | What if my baby won’t go to sleep?

As a lifestyle newborn photographer, I often get asked by my clients how they should approach their sessions. Do they need props? What should their newborn wear? What should they wear? What about their home? When do you shoot lifestyle newborn sessions? For me, I really focus on keeping things simple and keeping my families as informed as possible.
