As a lifestyle newborn photographer, I often get asked by my clients how they should approach their sessions. Do they need props? What should their newborn wear? What should they wear? What about their home? When do you shoot lifestyle newborn sessions? For me, I really focus on keeping things simple and keeping my families as informed as possible.
2019 is coming to an end. Can you believe it? What a year it had been for me, both personally and professionally. We welcomed our third and final baby in October 2018. Our little guy is by far the family favorite around here. Ha! He brings so much joy and laughter to our lives, I can not imagine our family without him. That is not say there hasn’t been adjustment period because there totally has and still is!!! Life with 3 littles and a thriving business can be chaotic at times. I have learned that saying NO and setting boundaries is so important for my sanity.
I know I’ve said it before, but fresh 48s have my heart. They truly are some of my favorite sessions to shoot. There is something so unique about these sessions that you just can’t capture at any other point. There are emotions and an overall feeling that is palpable in the room, I hardly have to guide clients.
I am finally blogging again! Once you check out this session, you will know why I had to jump back in. This in-home session is exactly how I love my to shoot my baby sessions, with lots of cuddling, laughing , and playing! I really do try to keep my sessions as laid back and easy as possible and with this family is was so easy!!
The best thing about lifestyle newborn sessions is you have more flexibility with the timing of your session. This baby boy was 7 weeks old for his newborn session. My main goal when shooting these sessions, is to capture your family as they are. That may mean a sleeping baby, an awake baby, or even both! We don’t spend hours trying to get your baby sleep.
It has been a month or so since I have shot an in-home lifestyle newborn session. I forgot how much I missed them! This all boy session was a great way to get back into my newborn groove.
I had the honor of photographing the insanely talented Ashley of A Family Affair Photography and her new family of 6! I don’t even know where to begin to explain what a honor this was for me. You see about 3.5 years ago, I had NO idea what I was doing with my camera and honestly had little interest in photography
I think by now everyone knows my passion for shooting fresh 48s. They are hands down my favorite sessions. There is something about those first few days that you just can’t capture during an in-home newborn session. I also think those are the moments and feelings that are hard to remember as a parent, especially a first time parent. It is such a whirlwind of emotion squeezed into a short period of time that you feel sort of high yet so exhausted at the same time. I personally have never had a fresh 48 for any of my own babies and now that I shoot them, I deeply regret it.
Lifestyle newborn sessions are some of my favorites. Although, they are just as unpredictable as an outdoor family session, I personally love the real emotion that these sessions have. I shot this lovely family for an in-home this winter. I love when I get to meet clients prior to their newborn session. It makes the process so much more relaxed for everyone. We spent most of our session laughing and talking about the struggles of parenting.
You may remember this family from their maternity session this past winter. I loved being able to get to know Raquel and John a bit prior to their newborn session. I spent a lovely Sunday morning getting to know their first born, baby girl, Harlowe!
