Late summer in St. Louis maybe one of my favorite times for an outdoor family session. The temperatures are just right and that beautiful golden fall light is starting to make it’s appearance. The mama of these babes wanted a session capturing her kids just being kids. We took the time to grab some traditional portraits at the beginning of the session. After we had those, we went to field and let the kids guide the session.

Family photographers all have a different way of approaching a family session. Finding the one that suits your family is the most important. Study their portfolio and talk with them about their shooting style. I am not the photographer for every family and I am totally ok with that! There are all kinds of family photographers out there that range from traditional to documentary , with everything in between. I find myself somewhere in the middle, with a lean towards documentary vs. traditional.

Sharing a really fun in-home lifestyle session today! When Allison contacted me for an in-home family session, I was thrilled…and slightly nervous! She is a local, super talented photographer. I love love love photographing other photographers but I am usually a giant ball of nerves leading up to the session. Yet, this sweet family made me fell right at home and it felt like I was photogprahjng my own family.

Recently I spent a morning with one of the CUTEST 1 year olds around. We had a laid back in-home family session to celebrate Rush turning 1! It was the perfect way to capture what this sweet family enjoys doing together and to capture how much Rush has grown. In-home lifestyle family sessions are not only for newborns, like a lot of people believe.

I spent a lovely morning with one of my favorite families, who happens to also be my neighbors. Elizabeth wanted a different setting for her family session vs. the typical tall grass or field, I was thrilled! I suggested doing something their family loves to do the weekend.

I am SUPER excited to share this in-home newborn  session. This session is a bit different from a lot of the newborn sessions I have shot but it is a direction I would love to start moving more into with my work. This session was approached with more of a documentary style and I couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out. 

Celebrating the first year of life is always one of my favorite sessions, especially when I have been able to capture the family throughout the first year. I first shot sweet Brooks last fall for our first session together. He was so happy, plus Maura and Cameron were a dream to work with. It was cloudy, windy, and cold that day but they pushed through with smiles on their faces! 

There are some sessions that just make your heart happy as an artist, this session is that one for me. If you have been following me for any amount of time, then you know I love moments and emotion over perfection. I want my images to make you feel something!
